Moles to Mass Converters (Using Molar Mass)

Moles and mass are linked by the molar mass (molecular weight) of the substance in g/mol: mass in grams = moles × molar mass, and moles = mass ÷ molar mass. Because every substance has its own molar mass, these converters ask for it, and then handle the unit prefixes (mol, mmol, µmol, nmol, pmol and g, mg, µg, ng, pg) for you. Pick a pair below to open its converter, table and worked examples.

How These Conversions Work

Multiply moles by the molar mass to get grams, and divide grams by the molar mass to get moles, then shift the result by powers of ten for the unit prefix. For example, 0.5 mol of a substance with a molar mass of 180 g/mol weighs 0.5 × 180 = 90 g, and 1 mmol of it weighs 180 mg.
